Texas Tech’s tight end, Jalin Conyers, has garnered significant attention by securing an invitation to the prestigious 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl, a key event for NFL Draft prospects.

This opportunity underscores Conyers’ impressive journey and potential as he transitions from collegiate football to the professional arena.

Early Life and High School Success

Hailing from Gruver, Texas, Conyers was a standout athlete at Gruver High School. His exceptional performance on the field earned him a four-star recruit status, ranking him among the top 75 prospects nationally. His versatility and athleticism made him a sought-after player, leading to his initial commitment to the University of Oklahoma.

Collegiate Career Path

Conyers began his college career at Oklahoma but transferred to Arizona State University (ASU) without appearing in a game for the Sooners. At ASU, he showcased his skills over three seasons, participating in 34 games with seven starts. He amassed 74 receptions for 846 yards and six touchdowns. Notably, in his final season with the Sun Devils, Conyers demonstrated his versatility by taking on roles beyond the traditional tight end position, including executing plays in the Wildcat formation, where he rushed 22 times for 92 yards and a touchdown.

Return to Texas and Impact at Texas Tech

In a move that brought him closer to his roots, Conyers transferred to Texas Tech University for his final year of eligibility. Playing for the Red Raiders, he continued to impress with 30 receptions for 320 yards and five touchdowns. His improved run-blocking abilities added to his reputation as a well-rounded and versatile tight end, enhancing his draft prospects.

Invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl

The East-West Shrine Bowl is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected college all-star games, serving as a critical platform for players to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and coaches. Conyers’ invitation to this event highlights his standing as a notable prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft. Participating in the Shrine Bowl offers him a valuable opportunity to demonstrate his skills against top-tier competition, potentially elevating his draft stock.

NFL Draft Prospects and Scouting Reports

Analysts have noted Conyers’ exceptional athleticism for his size, with the ability to create mismatches against linebackers and safeties. His versatility allows him to line up in various positions, including inline, in the slot, or even as a Wildcat quarterback. He possesses soft hands and natural receiving skills, making him a reliable target in the passing game. His impressive performance on deep routes and elusiveness after the catch further enhance his profile.

However, scouts have also identified areas for improvement. Despite his size and strength, Conyers’ blocking is considered average, and he lacks ideal height for the tight end position. He is still developing as an inline tight end and may initially be limited to a move tight end role. Refinement in his route tree, particularly in short and intermediate areas, and consistency in production are areas where he can grow.

Conclusion

Jalin Conyers’ journey from a high school standout in Texas to a prominent tight end prospect reflects his dedication and adaptability. His invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl is a testament to his hard work and potential. As he prepares to showcase his talents on this significant stage, the football community will be keenly observing his performance, anticipating his transition to the professional level.
