TALLAHASSEE, FL — In a groundbreaking tribute that’s never been done before in FSU history, the university will retire the jersey numbers of three iconic softball legends—Jessie Warren (#30), Meghan King (#24), and Sydney Sherrill (#5)—on the same night in what’s being called “Seminole Sisters: The Ceremony of Champions.”

The announcement has sent shockwaves through the Florida State fanbase, with alumni, students, and die-hard supporters flooding social media with memories, highlights, and tributes to the unforgettable trio that defined a golden era of FSU softball.

Set to take place under the lights at JoAnne Graf Field this fall, the ceremony will be held before a nationally televised game against rival Florida. Special guests will include FSU athletic legends, the 2018 National Championship team, and surprise appearances from former MLB and WNBA stars who have expressed admiration for the athletes’ historic achievements.

Jessie Warren, best known for “The Catch”—a jaw-dropping diving grab in the 2018 WCWS that sealed FSU’s first national title—said the moment feels surreal.

“We didn’t do it for the fame. We did it for the Tribe, for each other. This night proves our legacy was never just stats—it was sisterhood.”

Meghan King, the all-time NCAA Tournament wins leader and ace of that legendary squad, added,

“We made history together. And now we’ll be remembered—together. That’s the part that hits home.”

Sydney Sherrill, a record-breaking infielder and vocal leader throughout her career, called the honor “a moment every young girl in Garnet & Gold dreams of.”

The night will also feature a pre-game video tribute narrated by Sue Semrau, a Seminole legend in her own right, and a commemorative jersey giveaway for the first 2,000 fans in attendance. Each honoree will also unveil their retired number plaques along the outfield wall, a permanent reminder of their impact on the game and the school.

Already, the hashtag #SeminoleSisters is trending across platforms, with fans calling the moment “long overdue” and “the most emotional tribute in FSU softball history.”

Three legends. One field. One unforgettable night in Tallahassee.
