She changed the game on the field. Now, she’s about to change it off the field—forever.
In a stunning and emotional announcement, Oklahoma softball legend Jocelyn Alo is officially returning to Norman—not as a player, but as the first-ever Director of Softball Development at the University of Oklahoma.
The NCAA’s all-time home run queen, two-time national champion, and undisputed fan favorite is stepping into a groundbreaking role that will see her shape the next generation of Sooners, influence recruiting strategies, and elevate alumni engagement across all women’s sports.
“I wore the jersey. I know what it feels like to be in that locker room. Now it’s my turn to give back—to build, to guide, and to empower,” Alo said in her press release.
The new position places her on OU’s executive athletic staff, making her not only the first softball legend to hold such a title—but also the first woman in school history to take on a senior role focused specifically on player development and culture building in women’s sports.
Alo’s responsibilities will include:
- Mentorship programs for current players
- Hosting alumni roundtables and NIL workshops
- Direct involvement in national recruiting campaigns
- Community outreach and youth softball initiatives across Oklahoma
Athletic Director Joe Castiglione called the move “a home run for the future of Sooner athletics,” adding,
“What Jocelyn did as a player was legendary. But what she’s about to do as a leader? That’s legacy.”
The announcement was made official during a surprise halftime ceremony at an OU football game, where thousands erupted in a standing ovation as Alo stepped onto the field—this time wearing a crimson blazer instead of a jersey.
“We’re not just building champions. We’re building leaders.”
