Chase Young, the former Ohio State standout and 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, has secured a significant contract extension with the New Orleans Saints. The team announced that Young has re-signed on a three-year deal worth $51 million, with incentives that could increase the total value to $57 million.
Early Career and Challenges
Young entered the NFL with high expectations after being selected second overall by the Washington Commanders in the 2020 NFL Draft. He quickly made an impact, recording 7.5 sacks in his rookie season and earning the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award. However, his momentum was halted in 2021 when he suffered a torn ACL, limiting him to just 12 games over the next two seasons.
Transition to the Saints
In 2023, Young was traded to the San Francisco 49ers, where he contributed to the team’s defensive efforts and recorded a sack in Super Bowl LVIII. Following that season, he signed a one-year, $13 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. During the 2024 season, Young played all 17 games, achieving a career-high 34 quarterback pressures and 21 quarterback hits, along with 5.5 sacks.
