Former Ohio State offensive lineman Ben Christman was found dead on Tuesday at the age of 21.

The football community is mourning the untimely passing of Ben Christman, a 21-year-old offensive lineman who had recently transferred to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Christman was found deceased in his off-campus apartment on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by the university. The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

UNLV head coach Dan Mullen expressed profound sorrow over Christman’s passing, stating, “Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing. Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our Leadership Committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration, and friendship of all his teammates. Our prayers … , and he will be missed.”

Christman’s football journey began in Akron, Ohio, where he attended Revere High School in Rich … . As a standout player, he was ranked as the top offensive lineman in Ohio and was a four-star prospect. His high school success led him to Ohio State University in 2021, where he redshirted his freshman year and appeared in one game during the 2022 season.

Seeking more playing time, Christman transferred to the University of Kentucky in 2023. Unfortunately, a knee injury sidelined him for the entire season. Demonstrating resilience, he returned to participate in all 12 games on special teams in the following season, logging 44 snaps and an additional 23 snaps on offense at right guard. He graduated from Kentucky in December with …

In December 2024, Christman transferred to UNLV, eager to make an impact under head coach Dan Mullen. Despite his brief time with the Rebels, he quickly became an integral part of the team, earning a spot on the Leadership Committee and the respect of his peers.

UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield also shared his condolences, stating, “There is little that can be said … . On behalf of UNLV, our … .”

In light of this tragedy, UNLV is offering counseling services to support those affected by Christman’s passing. The university community, along with the broader football fraternity, remembers Ben Christman not only for his athletic talents but also for his character, leadership, and the positive impact he had on those around him.

As the investigation into his death continues, the legacy of Ben Christman serves as a poignant reminder of the pressures faced by student-athletes and the importance of mental health support within collegiate sports programs. His journey through multiple esteemed football programs underscores his dedication to the sport and his unwavering commitment to personal and athletic growth.

The loss of such a promising young individual has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. As the community grieves, there is a collective hope that his memory will inspire increased awareness and support for the well-being of student-athletes nationwide.
