On January 29, 2025, the TCU Horned Frogs faced a challenging game against the No. 22 Texas Tech Red Raiders, culminating in a 71-57 defeat at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

This loss highlighted ongoing offensive struggles for TCU, as they grappled with maintaining consistency against a formidable opponent.

Texas Tech’s forward, JT Toppin, delivered a standout performance, recording a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Chance McMillian also made a significant contribution, adding 16 points to the Red Raiders’ tally. Their combined efforts were instrumental in securing the victory for Texas Tech.

The game commenced with both teams displaying strong defensive strategies, resulting in a closely contested first half. However, as the game progressed, Texas Tech’s offensive prowess became increasingly evident. They capitalized on TCU’s offensive inconsistencies, gradually building a lead that the Horned Frogs found challenging to overcome.

TCU’s offense struggled to find rhythm throughout the game. The team’s shooting percentages were suboptimal, and turnovers further hindered their scoring opportunities. Despite efforts to rally, the Horned Frogs were unable to close the gap, underscoring the offensive challenges that have plagued them in recent matchups.

This game marked Texas Tech’s first appearance as a ranked team this season, and they lived up to their billing with a comprehensive performance. The Red Raiders showcased depth and versatility, with multiple players contributing significantly on both ends of the court.

For TCU, this defeat adds to a series of disappointing outcomes, raising concerns about their offensive strategies and execution. The coaching staff will need to address these issues promptly to reverse the team’s fortunes as the season progresses.

Looking ahead, TCU will need to regroup and focus on improving their offensive cohesion. Emphasizing ball control, shot selection, and minimizing turnovers will be crucial areas of focus in their upcoming practices and games.

In contrast, Texas Tech will aim to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign. Maintaining their defensive intensity and balanced scoring will be key factors in sustaining their success in future matchups.

This game serves as a reminder of the competitive nature of college basketball, where consistency and execution often determine the outcome. Both teams have lessons to take away as they prepare for the challenges that lie ahead in the season.
