Alabama Announces New Tradition: Losing to Tennessee Every year

Alabama Announces New Tradition: Losing to Tennessee Every year

In a move that has left college football fans stunned, the University of Alabama has announced a shocking new tradition: losing to Tennessee every single year. This bizarre decision comes after the Crimson Tide suffered back-to-back defeats to the Volunteers, and instead of fighting back, they have decided to embrace the trend.

During a press conference, Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne made the bombshell announcement, explaining that the school wanted to bring more balance to its rivalry with Tennessee.

“For too long, Alabama has dominated this series, and frankly, we felt bad about it,” Byrne said. “After talking with our boosters, coaching staff, and fans, we realized it was time to make a change. Going forward, Alabama football will respectfully bow to Tennessee every season to ensure they have something to celebrate.”

A Stunning Reversal of Fortune

For nearly two decades, Alabama fans enjoyed an annual tradition of celebrating victory cigars after defeating Tennessee. Under Nick Saban, the Crimson Tide embarrassed the Volunteers year after year, turning what was once a fierce rivalry into a lopsided affair. However, Tennessee’s stunning victory in 2022—ending a 15-year losing streak—seemed to shake Alabama’s confidence.

Now, rather than fight to restore their dominance, the Crimson Tide are taking a different approach. Players will still bring cigars to the game, but instead of lighting them in celebration, they will now present them as gifts to the Volunteers.

“It’s a gesture of goodwill,” current Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said. “We understand that Tennessee fans have had it rough for a long time, and we want to help them feel relevant again.”

Fan Reaction: Rage and Despair

Unsurprisingly, Alabama fans have not taken the news well. The idea of intentionally losing to Tennessee—one of the most hated rivals in program history—has caused widespread outrage across the state.

“This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to Alabama football,” said longtime fan Mike Patterson. “I don’t care if we go 1-11, as long as that one win is against Tennessee. But now? We’re just giving up? This is a disgrace.”

The backlash has been so intense that the University of Alabama Police Department has increased security around Bryant-Denny Stadium, fearing an all-out riot. Some fans have already started petitions demanding the administration reverse its decision, while others have vowed to stop supporting the team altogether.

Tennessee Fans Loving Every Moment

Meanwhile, in Knoxville, Tennessee fans are celebrating like it’s Christmas.

“This is the greatest day in the history of college football,” said lifelong Volunteer fan Jake Simmons. “I never thought I’d see the day when Alabama just quit on us. This is better than a national championship.”

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel was caught off guard by the announcement but seemed more than willing to accept Alabama’s generosity.

“Hey, I’m not going to complain,” Heupel said with a grin. “If Alabama wants to make losing to us a tradition, who am I to argue?”

What’s Next?

Despite the uproar, Alabama officials remain committed to their decision. The university is even considering making the tradition official by installing a permanent “We Surrender” banner at Neyland Stadium.

While Alabama’s dominance in college football may not be over, one thing is certain: Tennessee fans will never let them live this down.
