Outlander, Starz’s large-scale, small-screen adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series, debuted 10 years ago this year. As a television reviewer who initially watched the show as an enthusiastic fan before later getting the chance to cover it professionally, it’s hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia for its enduring success.
The longevity of this specific program is also noteworthy; Outlander just concluded its eighth and final season earlier this year, a milestone that seems even more difficult to reach in the harsh streaming environment of today. ‘Outlander’ Season 7 Part 2: What Is It About?
Recall that Jamie (Sam Heughan), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and Not-So-Young-Anymore Ian (John Bell) were finally returning to Scotland at the conclusion of Season 7 Part 1. Their trip isn’t just for personal gain; Jamie has been assigned to bury his uncle Simon Fraser in his native country. However, when the three return to Lallybroch, there are some unresolved issues with the people who greet them.
In the current timeline, which is technically the 1980s, Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) are dealing with far more serious issues now that their son Jeremiah has been abducted by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton), Brianna’s creepy coworker, who is determined to obtain a fabled gold cache linked to their family’s past. However, the greatest risk of all is that Rob and Jem may have simply travelled through the stones to an unidentified period. Brianna is left to protect Lallybroch alone, dealing with any threats that may arise as Roger hooks up with his own time-traveling ancestor, Buck MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh), to travel back in time and save his son.
Heughan and Balfe are at the heart of it all; without their tremendous contributions over the years and their great casting, it’s safe to assume that Outlander would not be the show that it is now. Readers who have read the books for a long time are aware that outside forces frequently try to keep Jamie and Claire apart, putting their enduring love and marriage to the test through sometimes phoney ways. The most recent episodes of Season 7 don’t hold back when embracing those challenges. Balfe does some of her greatest work in the character during this period of separation, so to speak; after returning to America, Claire must balance her allegiances to her family and her country and take the necessary precautions to keep the people she cares about safe.
Over the past ten years, no other series has managed to pull off the twists and turns that this one has, and with the coming of Season 7, the first three episodes alone are packed with surprises and shocks that could make fans, especially those who haven’t been spoilt, seek for Tears. Even if the story will eventually come to an end, Part 2 of Outlander Season 7 provides more and more proof that the program intends to end on a high note. On November 22, Outlander Season 7 will officially premiere on Starz.
