In a decision that has Lady Vols fans celebrating across the country, Tamari Key has officially declined a massive $1.2 million contract offer from a top-tier overseas team—choosing instead to stay in Knoxville and return for what she’s calling an “Unfinished Business” season.
The 6-foot-6 shot-blocking legend, who already holds the all-time blocks record for Tennessee women’s basketball, stunned media and scouts when she revealed her plans during an emotional press conference at Thompson-Boling Arena.
“I had offers, I had options—but nothing compares to this place,” Key said, wearing her signature orange warmup jacket. “This program, these fans, this jersey—it means more to me than a paycheck ever could.”
The overseas contract reportedly came from an elite club in Spain’s Liga Femenina, which would have given her international exposure and a hefty salary. But Key, now fully recovered from a health setback that sidelined her during the 2022–23 season, said the decision was clear.
“I’m healthy, I’m hungry, and I’m home,” she smiled.
Key’s return instantly raises expectations for the Lady Vols’ upcoming season. Already a defensive powerhouse, her experience, leadership, and presence in the paint make Tennessee a formidable SEC title contender.
