The dorm, already approved under the name Sooner Legacy Living Center, will offer free housing, tutoring, nutrition, and wellness programs for underprivileged student-athletes, giving them the stability and support often missing from their journeys.
“I’ve lifted trophies, won titles, and been in every kind of spotlight,” Stoops said. “But this — this is the kind of win that outlasts your record. If I can help even one kid stay in school and dream bigger, it’s worth it.”
University officials initially tried to keep the donation anonymous, but public records listing Stoops as the principal financial backer for the $12 million project brought the truth to light. Once the news spread, reactions from across the sports world poured in — from former players, coaches, and thousands of OU fans on social media.
