The pipeline of elite talent to Austin continues to flourish, and Texas Softball just secured another superstar in the making. Hannah Wells, the 2024-2025 Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year, is officially bound for the Forty Acres — and her résumé is nothing short of jaw-dropping.
Wells, a dominant two-way force out of Coahoma High School, capped off her senior season by leading her team to a Class 3A Division II State Championship with a staggering 35–1 overall record. Whether in the circle or at the plate, she proved herself as one of the most complete and unrelenting athletes in the nation.
In the circle, Wells compiled a 22–1 record with a microscopic 0.44 ERA, striking out 258 batters and consistently silencing opposing lineups. Her control, velocity, and poise under pressure made her virtually untouchable, and her performance was a driving force behind Coahoma’s championship run.
But it’s her offensive output that turned even more heads. Wells slashed an eye-popping .602 at the plate with 75 RBIs and crushed a Texas state single-season record 31 home runs. Her power, combined with her ability to hit for average and deliver in clutch moments, made her a nightmare for pitchers across the state.
Winning Gatorade National Player of the Year places Wells in elite company — past winners include legends like Cat Osterman and current stars like Rachel Garcia. The award not only honors athletic excellence but also academic achievement and character, underscoring the kind of person Texas is getting, both on and off the field.
With her commitment to the University of Texas, Wells is poised to make an immediate impact on a Longhorns program already stacked with talent. Head coach Mike White has built Texas into a perennial national contender, and adding a player of Wells’ caliber only raises the ceiling.
As the Longhorns continue to chase a national championship, the arrival of Hannah Wells signals that the future remains exceptionally bright in Austin. From her record-breaking bat to her dominant pitching presence, she brings a winning pedigree and relentless drive that will fit right in on the Forty Acres.
